Brief: Spring Fest in the Park planned for Anson B. Nixon Park on April 26 

            Kennett Square PA --  Get your dirt quotient ahead of schedule on Saturday April 26 at a brand new event that promises to get everyone in the mood for spring at Anson B. Nixon Park.  Spring Fest in the Park will be a village of tents overflowing with flowers and garden accessories scattered throughout the Park’s woods and meadows. It runs from 10 am to 3 pm and is a rain or shine activity.

Free informative demonstrations include Veggie Gardening with Children and Beneficial Insect in the Garden (you have friends in your garden) by experts from Winterthur-A Country Estate. Mt. Cuba Center will get you in the mood for gardening with information about spring plants and flowering branches.  A crew from Longwood Gardens will help you make a mini floral arrangement to take home. These activities and more will all make for a wonderful day in the Park.

            Community Gardeners of Chester County in conjunction with Kennett Middle School students have planned a groundbreaking for their new community garden located in the Park. The Four Seasons Garden Club will share their talents and a special Red Maple tree will be planted by the Four Seasons Junior Gardeners of Kennett Square in honor of Arbor Day.  The Junior Gardeners also plan to show off their butterfly garden near the Park’s playground.  Children’s activities are planned including disc golf and face painting.

            A full day of demonstrations is planned including windowbox planting, composting, flower arranging, water gardens and fountains, plants and flowering annuals, flowering potting plants and perennials. A demonstration of Taiji sword techniques and Chinese violin (Erhu) music by Dr. Xianhao Cheng will fascinate all attending. Great garden tips can be picked up by experts from The Chester County Master Composters, Master Gardeners of Chester County, Delaware Valley Daylily Society, et Flowers – A Peony Garden, The American Camellia Society and more.

Londonderry Greenhouses Garden Shop of Cochranville, well known for their outstanding plants and blooming annuals, will sell early spring plants and accessories. Chadds Ford Greenhouses will offer hand made pots and perennials and annuals, and Springhouse, also from Chadds Ford, will feature handcrafted home furnishings and garden accessories.  Kennett Square area merchants include Home & Garden Culture with fantastic fountains and garden sculptures, Pack Rats Place in The Brick Garage with antiques, flags and recycled, reused furniture. Le Style 25 of Willowdale is planning a fresh flower cart and arrangements and Three French Hens of Unionville features global artistic treasures and children’s toys. Local farmers and food are represented by New Garden Growers Market and Kennett Square Farmers Market. Food will be available for purchase.

            The event has been organized by Friends of the Anson B. Nixon Park.
